Echoes From Muddy Water

This is a South American electric eel from a fish merchant in Guangdong, China. Due to the global pet trade, electric eels can be seen in many countries. But humans have not been able to artificially breed electric eels. In other words, every electric eel you see in every aquarium in the world can only come from the muddy water of the Amazon River Basin. In their natural environment, electric eels use high voltage electricity for hunting and defense. Those electric eels still emit electric currents on the way out of their homeland, but these electric currents are futilely dissipated in the freighter's container.

In this work, a harmless sensor is placed in the water tank where the electric eel is kept. The electric currents released by the electric eel during life activities will be sensed by the sensor device and converted into loud or small sounds. Allows people to hear another sound of the electric eel.

这是一条从广东鱼商手中得到的南美电鳗。由于全球宠物贸易的兴盛，在很多国家和地区都可以见到电鳗。人类至今没有掌握电鳗的人工繁育技术，也就是说，你见到的每一只电鳗，都来自亚马逊河流域浑浊的泥水中。那些背井离乡的电鳗仍会释放电流，然而这些电流大多在货轮的集装箱中徒劳的消散了。

我在饲养电鳗的水箱中安置无害的金属导线和传感器，用以捕捉电鳗因生命活动不停释放的电流，电流被转换成或强或弱的声音，并在整个展览空间内实时播放。
