This is a South American electric eel, raised by a fish dealer in Guangdong. Due to the global pet trade, electric eels can now be found in many countries and regions. Humans have not yet mastered the artificial breeding of electric eels, so every visible individual originates from the turbid waters of the Amazon River basin.

High-sensitivity sensors are placed around the aquarium to capture the weak electric currents the eel generates during its life activities and convert them into audible sound. Currents that originally served the eel for hunting, navigation, and perception in murky waters lose their function within human transport and display systems, yet are now re-presented through the installation.

这是一条广东鱼商饲养的南美电鳗。由于全球宠物贸易的兴盛，在许多国家和地区都可以见到电鳗。人类至今尚未掌握电鳗的人工繁育技术，因此每一条可见的电鳗都源自亚马逊河流域浑浊的河水。我在鱼缸周围布置高灵敏度传感器，以捕捉电鳗在生命活动中释放的微弱电流，并将其转换为可听的声音。原本服务于电鳗在浑水环境中捕食、导航和感知的电流，在人类运输和展示系统中失去了原有功能，此刻通过装置被重新呈现。
