Shield and Ants

BZS-75-1 bulletproof shield, Polyrhachis dives, light, glass box, etc.

This is a BZS-75-1 bulletproof shield used by Ukrainian soldiers on the Kharkiv battlefield in 2022. A bullet pierced the shield, leaving behind a distinct hole and permanent scorch marks. Years have passed, yet the war continues. I still do not know whether the person who once stood behind this shield is alive.

I often find myself looking through this bullet hole, imagining whether the worlds on either side of the shield are truly so different.

Polyrhachis dives is a species of ant capable of producing silk to build its nests. For many years, I have studied their weaving behavior. In this installation, I place these ants onto the shield. They continuously use silk and debris to repair the bullet hole.

这是一块来自2022年乌克兰哈尔科夫战场，乌方士兵使用过的 BZS-75-1 防弹盾牌。盾牌上留下了一个明显的弹孔，以及无法消退的灼烧痕迹。多年过去了，战争仍然在继续，我仍不知道当时这块盾牌后面的人是否还活着。

我始终试图透过这个弹孔去想象：盾牌内外的世界，是否真的如此不同。

双齿多刺蚁是一种能够分泌丝线建造巢穴的蚂蚁，多年来我一直研究它们织网的行为。如今，我将这些蚂蚁置于盾牌之上。它们会不断用丝线与碎屑，修复这处弹孔。
